Cat’s Claw is one of Peru’s most potent medicinal plants. Its main attributes are immune system support and joint health.   In the First International Congress on this specie, sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) it was pointed out that no other rainforest plant has ever prompted such worldwide attention since quinine was discovered in the bark of a Peruvian tree in the 17th century.   Peruvian jungle natives, as Ashaninkas, Campas and Amueshas, have been using this plant for a long time to heal many diseases.

The common name of Cat’s Claw comes from a legend. This legend tells about an Ashaninca hunter, who, being a little tired due to an extenuating long walk, observed an enormous otorongo tearing up the bark of a thick liana with its sharp fingernails to drink the water that emanated from its core, just before the otorongo hunted a deer. This observation made the hunter try the powerful water, feeling again full of vigor and being able to hunt an enormous sachavaca. The hunter returned with a sample of this plant to his tribe and from then on it is used as Cat’s Claw.

Cat’s Claw has shown a wide range of beneficial effects and nutraceutical properties that arise from the synergy of its many active compounds. It is an antioxidant and has several studies showing interesting effects on inflammation, mutagenicity of cells, among other aspects with excellent results.
